Julian Robinson has been directing, producing, and editing award-winning films, television, and digital media for two decades.
Films & Television
His work has netted five Emmy nominations, 3 SXSW premieres, 3 Cannes Lions, and a Peabody win. As a film producer and editor, he has made six feature films, including the SXSW headlining documentary "Decoding Deepak" and the acclaimed Drafthouse Cinemas indie comedy "Amira & Sam." In 2019 he edited UFC’s “Agents of Change,” as part of the Emmy-nominated series “25 Years in Short.” After twenty years in the business, his resumé spans every genre and format.
Digital & Advertising
In the world of digital entertainment, Julian has directed, edited, & executive produced series launches for Vox (Foul Play: Paid in Mississippi), Amazon (Uncabaret), and spearheaded dozens of launch campaigns for global brands, including Verizon’s 2019 Super Bowl Campaign which won 3 Cannes Lions. (The Team That Wouldn’t Be Here). In 2020 he edited Quibi’s You Ain’t Got These, which was unveiled for audiences at Sundance. His work in branded digital and advertising has represented global brands and cutting-edge startups alike.
Creative Development
Many of these projects originated in development as pilots and sizzles. As a creative director, producer and editor, Julian has guided over 100 projects from concept to execution. Development of new formats requires passion and innovation at every turn- the fusion of sound and images that bring new ideas to life. In 2016, he worked on-site at the Standing Rock for the Black Hills Sioux Nation in their work as water protectors, documenting the historic events around the Veterans’ March and the suspension of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Biography
Julian grew up making heavy metal and stage musicals in Alabama, before attaining his MFA in Film Producing at Columbia University. He launched his career in documentary news journalism and taught film editing in San Francisco. Today he lives in Los Angeles, where he can be found exploring local wilderness and seeking the stories that change the world.
